According to Dr. Naresh Singh

Residency the old monumental building was built under the rule of Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula and it was completed in 1774 under the tenure of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan. Claude Martin one of the best architects of that time had chosen this land for Residency.
