Foundation

La Martinière College was founded in 1845 by Major General Claude Martin, a French adventurer and soldier who served in the British East India Company’s army. Martin bequeathed a large sum of money and his property in Lucknow for the establishment of a school. His will stated that the school should be named after him and should provide education to the sons of European and Eurasian soldiers.
